The 431, and 431M Series offer the smallest-size strain gauge force transducers where good specification can still be maintained. Operating in both tension and compression from forces of 50 grams to 10,000 pounds, these precision miniature load cells have a rugged stainless-steel weld construction with a “tripled” stack design to eliminate or minimize the off-axis loading effects shown in Fig. LC.3. And the internal construction assures excellent long-term stability for ranges of 1 kg and up.

All the basic engineering concepts of larger load cells are built into these instruments, including precision calibration, stabilizing diaphragms, pressure compensation, etc. Each bonded strain gage unit is built of welded 17-4 PH stainless steel for additional
ruggedness.

431 - Applications
431 Miniature series have deliberately been given small dimensions, so that they can easily be incorporated into existing structures or fitted into locations where access is difficult. Tensile and compressive forces are introduced to the cylindrical sensor housing through the two threaded bolts. Typical applications for these sub-miniature load cells include their use as measuring devices in equipment construction in general, in production lines, in measurement and control equipment, test equipment and so forth.

The 431 Series load cells are to be carefully screwed into place using the threaded bolts. Tools must not be used for assembly.

The force must only be applied centrally, along the center line, and only through the threads. Other fitted parts must not touch the sensor housing. It is recommended that adhesive is applied to the threads. Bending, flexing or torsion forces will cause errors in the measurements and can damage the sensor. To avoid overload during assembly, it is helpful if electrical connections are made to the sensor beforehand and if the measurement on the display is watched during the process.
