MACRO SSI/R - Description

The SS 937 Series by Macro Sensors is a collection of submersible Linear Variable Differential Transformers (LVDTs) engineered for precise and reliable measurements in the challenging conditions of deep-sea environments. With a nominal diameter of .94 inches (24 mm), these sensors are available in standard measurement ranges of 2 inches (50 mm), 3 inches (75 mm), and 4 inches (100 mm), with the option for custom ranges upon request.

Constructed from Inconel, a material known for its strength and corrosion resistance, the SS Series LVDTs are designed to withstand external pressures up to 5000 psi, making them suitable for continuous submersion in seawater. This construction ensures a service life of at least 20 years, addressing the high-reliability requirements for long-term subsea applications.

A key feature of the SS Series LVDTs is their 4-20 mA two-wire, loop-powered I/O system, which significantly reduces the need for pressure-sealed I/O connections and minimizes signal noise over long transmission distances. This design simplifies the process of transmitting data back to the surface, even from great depths. Electrical connections are made via a high-pressure axial or radial Seacon-Brantner subsea connector, further enhancing the sensor's adaptability to underwater conditions.

These LVDTs are particularly suited for applications that require monitoring structural movement for Finite Element Analysis (FEA) of critical offshore oil platform components like pipelines, derricks, and moorings. The SS Series can be deployed in pressure-balanced, oil-filled containers or directly in seawater, offering flexibility for various subsea measurement systems.
