Compact Design - The design combines mechanical strength with the compactness of a hydraulic cylinder.
Space-saving design and minimum mounting footprint that allows for multiple press operations, in close proximity to each other. Force ranges start at 2000 N ( 450 lbs) and go up to 200,000 N ( 45,000 lbs) and tool strokes from 100 mm up to 400 mm.
Intelligent Functionality - The press tool is equipped with memory enabling it to store items such as model numbers and load values in a self-memory, and thereby simplifying controller pairing and setup. The diverse control capability can be optimized to reduce cycle time, improving productivity, improve your product quality, reduce the scrap assemblies, reduce the operating costs and reduce the impact on the environment.
Self Maintenance - This Press Tool / Controller performs monitoring of operation counts, thermal loading and travel distances to maintain the Tool’s endurance. Alarm conditions insure operation within the designed performance criteria. This eliminates excessive force conditions, thermal stress, etc., providing the process with a high reliability, minimum down time and optimized cycle time.
Durability and Long Life – Coretec uses the highest quality Ball Screws, Planetary Gears, integrated Strain Gauge Force Sensors and Guided Anti-rotational Rams, in their tools, providing the high standard of durability necessary for long life at a high performance level. They utilize Roller and Ball Thrust Bearings that are rated for High Speed applications with High Forces.
Versatility - The range of Servo Press Tools with Force Ranges starting at 2kN and intermediate ranges up to 200kN, provides application flexibility. Most of the Ranges are offered with 100mm, 200mm, and 350mm strokes. There are specially build Tools for up to 400 mm travel for some Servo Presses. In addition, there are Clean Room options on some Tools.
Clean / Green Press Operation - The reduced operating costs is a result of a higher efficiency as the use of electrical energy Pressing or Joining Operations only occurs when the Tool is activated, compared to a large pneumatic or hydraulic system, that have operating pumps or compressors running continuously. In addition the reduction in mechanical support equipment provides a cleaner operating environment for your staff, as well as reducing the diversity of their activities of the maintenance staff, by eliminating the hydraulic equipment and reducing the demand on the air supply.
High Speed and Flexible Data Networking
Traceability – Each Servo Press Tool has a memory that includes the Force Sensor Calibration and characteristics for ease of interchangeability. The operating characteristics of each Servo Press Tool, is established with the selection of the Tool model and visible for the operations & maintenance staff.
Multi-Program/Parameters - Major parameters within programs can be changed through a PLC interaction. Creation of a single program allows for handling variations between multiple product models.
PLC Communication – Optional Fieldbus modules provide compatibility with Ethernet IP, CC-Link, DeviceNet, ProfiNet, Profibus and other applications. Supporting PLC data storage of numerical results in addition to basic input/output operations. Communication between the Servo Press Controller and the PLC can provide Sequential Program Selection, Cycle Variables / Parameters, Dynamic or Static Data Collection, Process Trending and Complete Control.
Database & LAN Integration – The Ethernet communication port with the standard software provides Data Base and File Server connectivity, as well as, Data Review and Reporting. Customized applications using SQL and MSQL data formats can be provided, as well as, integration assistance on a case by case basis.

Simple Program Development – An Automatic program creation tool is included as standard on PC software application, allowing for complete creation of general-purpose programs with all the basic program settings. Easy to use, setup and run. Manual Operation is also available with a HMI Panel.
Wide Range of Control Functions - A specialized language for the servo press has been developed that permits description of complicated motions equivalent to robotic control systems. Ramp Up / Ramp Down Acceleration, Double Insertion Part Present Detection, Press and Hold, Repeat Press, Tension Retraction Detection, … are just a few of the special features that are available within the Controller’s Functions.
Numerous Evaluation Methods - Load, Stroke and Load Rate values are evaluated according to final and peak points, as well as, numerous points at specific to your Press Operation. A zone evaluation function and graphical display is also standard.

Control Capability at a Fraction of the Cost
In manufacturing automation there are three keys to better processes: Speed, Control and Cost. The process of press fit assembly and monitoring has evolved considerably in the last few years. Today it is not good enough to press to interference parts together and hope or assume that the are assembled correctly.
Traditionally a pneumatic or Hydraulic cylinder has been used to provide the force required to assemble parts. These systems are economical and can be found in almost any assembly plant. They are easy to implement and although they require ongoing maintenance, most facilities have the in house resources to handle it.
The addition of a load cell and a displacement sensor to the ram connected to a signature analysis system such as the Burster Digiforce 9310 or 9307 allow for measurement of the process. The cost of a cylinder, hydraulic power pack, tooling, sensors and instruments have been the most economical solution for this type of assembly.
There is however, a severe limitation to these presses. They do not have the ability to control force, position and speed in real time. When a pressure is set, the press will act until it reaches a hard stop, at which point it will bottom out to the force that is set by the pressure.
In order to improve the process, we need better tools.

Ball screw servo presses use an electro servo motor coupled to a ball screw mechanism, to translate rotation to linear force. Virtually all electric motors have built in encoders, allowing them to control based on displacement and speed. However, controlling only on displacement and speed is missing half of the equation for controlling the assembly process, we need to know the forces associated with these processes, in order to accurately judge them as pass/fail.

Plug and Play Data Collection
Gone are the days where quality is left to chance, modern manufacturing requires 100% data collection. Coretec's simple to use software allows you to autonomously collect numerical and graphical data from up to 32 presses via PC Software, using standard Ethernet TCP/IP and standard windows PC.
Model and serial numbers can be written over the PLC interface (Profinet, EthernetIP, DeviceNET, etc.) to a specific press and archived with the data by the software. It automatically receives the data from all of the connected controllers, regardless of the order and frequency.

Pressing Rotor into Pump Assembly
Here we are pressing a shaft into a rotor housing. Notice how the gripper positions the shaft and the press pauses when it comes to touch it. The press is checking the part in real time to see if it is too loose or too tight. After the press communicates this to the PLC, the PLC retracts the gripper before the press finishes the part. This demonstrates some of the handshaking capabilities, as well as the value of live feedback.
