LT-FR - Description

The LT-FR Stopwatch Transmitter provides isolated analog and serial data outputs that accurately track time for various events. It can measure the duration of single events triggered by start and stop pulses, accumulate time across multiple events, and measure the width of individual pulses. With a high resolution of 0.2 µs, it’s perfect for fast event timing, while its maximum timing interval extends up to 999,999 hours. For longer events, the analog output updates continuously during the timing process.

  • A-A Stopwatch Mode: Measures time between a start and stop pulse, both on Channel A, triggered by either the positive or negative edge.
  • A-B Stopwatch Mode: Measures time between a start pulse on Channel A and a stop pulse on Channel B, allowing input from different sources. This mode can also use a single input by tying Channels A and B together, starting and stopping with opposite polarities.

Timing is achieved by counting 5.5 MHz clock pulses from a calibrated quartz crystal, ensuring precision. During timing, outputs update at a configurable rate of up to 25 times per second. The stopwatch resets to zero upon receiving a new start pulse, and it can track accumulated time for multiple events, up to the 999,999-hour limit.

Dual-Channel Signal Conditioner

The transmitter features a dual-channel signal conditioner for pulse detection, compatible with a wide range of sensors, including:

  • Proximity switches (PNP or NPN output)
  • TTL or CMOS logic
  • Magnetic pickups
  • Contact closures
  • Other signals ranging from 12 mV to 250 Vac

Configurable jumpers optimize performance for various sensor types and noise levels. A built-in DC excitation supply (selectable 5V, 10V, or 24V) powers proximity switches and other sensors, eliminating the need for an external power source.

LT-FR - Applications

Stopwatch Mode

The stopwatch mode enables precise timing of single events between start and stop pulses on the same channel. For applications requiring the measurement of a single waveform’s duration, the A and B channels can be tied together for seamless operation.

Timing Process Dynamics

Start and stop pulses for timing can be easily generated using the dual relays found in Laureate panel meters, counters, or transmitters. For example, these pulses can be triggered as temperature crosses predefined alarm setpoints or during temperature cycles in a hysteresis control mode. This flexibility makes it ideal for automated timing applications.

Replacing an Oscilloscope with a Laureate Transmitter

While oscilloscopes are ideal for analyzing and timing pulses in laboratory settings, a Laureate time interval meter or transmitter is a more cost-effective and reliable solution for fixed installations. With a resolution as high as 0.2 µs, it ensures precise digital timing and integrates seamlessly with control systems.

Instrumenting a Pulsed Laser System

The Laureate dual-channel counters and transmitters are highly versatile for instrumenting pulsed laser systems. They can measure various parameters, including: elapsed time, number of pulses, pulse width, pulse separation, duty cycle, and pulse rep rate.
